Fellow .NET Users,

Spring is finally here! Do you know what that means? Microsoft’s Build conference is just around the corner which also means that we’ll be seeing all of the shiny new tech coming out of Redmond! I’m personally excited to hear the announcement related to machine learning, which seems to be a major focus for Microsoft these days. Stop by our Slack group and tell us what you're looking forward to learning about.

It’s also time for our next .NET User’s Group meeting! The meeting will be taking place on Thursday, April 25th starting at 6:00 PM. Food and drinks will be served starting 15-20 minutes before the meeting begins.

After the meeting, our friends at Harbinger Partners will be buying drinks and appetizers for us at Dudley's which is near the BCBS office.

Topic:
.NET in an AWS World
As the software engineering partner for as many as 40 greenfield projects per year, Don’t Panic Labs and their engineers are afforded opportunities to work with a large variety of technologies. Though it primarily executes its early-stage software product development in the Microsoft .NET world, the team frequently encounters unique business cases that require somewhat exotic combinations of tools and techniques. Often, this involves combining solutions from entirely different ecosystems. Joining technologies like API Gateway, Lambdas, Azure DevOps, .NET Core, and their significantly diverging philosophies under one architecture can provide significant business value. Sometimes the development experience is great; sometimes…not so much.

Software engineers Matt Will and Tony Wilsman will share experiences (good and bad) of working with both the Microsoft and Amazon tech stacks to bring their projects to life.

Presenters:
Tony Wilsman is a Software Architect with over fifteen years of experience creating solutions for a wide variety of clients and platforms. He is a firm believer in cloud-based solutions, and is intrigued — but not entirely convinced — by the promise of "Serverless.” When he's not working, Tony is usually mitigating the damage done to his home by three kids and a dog.

Matt Will is a Software Architect who has a great passion for developing quality software. He has been developing software for a while and his love of writing code was reignited when he first learned about IDesign. Being a code wrangler means he spends a lot of time looking at bad code and knowing that there has to be a better way to do it. Since joining the team, Matt has worked on a wide variety of projects. Most recently, his interests in building his own mobile applications have grown based on what he has learned working with partners on their mobile apps. Outside of work, Matt loves spending time outdoors including camping, hiking, running, and bicycling. He is also a dog lover as proven by his ever-growing collection of bite marks and scratches from his dogs.

Don’t Panic Labs builds software and transforms development teams to make innovative ideas a reality. Their industry-recognized processes and know-how fuel their early-stage software product development. How they approach new software creation demonstrates that accurate estimates, better timelines, and consistently successful outcomes are possible. By applying proper engineering principles, they are able to architect products to withstand the largest constant in the software world: change. This lays a foundation for future growth in a way that the “rebuild it later” approach can never accomplish. Don’t Panic Labs is transforming the software development ecosystem by building software products for organizations of all sizes, working alongside existing product development teams, educating talent at all levels of experience, and evangelizing effective industry principles.

Don’t Panic Labs launched in 2010 as the software development arm of Nebraska Global. Their intergalactic headquarters are located in the Historic Haymarket District of Lincoln, Nebraska.
