Fellow .NET Users,
Welcome to 2019! I hope you were able to enjoy some time off and spend it with family and friends over the holidays. We have a brand-new year of user group fun lined up for you. We’re starting the year with a special treat by having our very own Brian Olson give the presentation. Also, note that we’re having the meeting downtown this month. I know that a lot of you would rather have the meeting in Midtown or West Omaha, but I think it’s worth the journey. Kiewit University is a pretty cool place and I hope you’ll be able to join us.
This month’s .NET User’s Group meeting was originally scheduled for January 31st, but if you are on our slack channel you already know that due to scheduling conflicts we pushed the meeting back one week.
Our next meeting will take place on Thursday, February 7th, starting at 6:00 PM. Food and drink will be served by our sponsor starting 30 minutes before the meeting. Kiewit University has its own cafeteria, where they will be serving BBQ. In addition, Kiewit has generously agreed to give away a Nintendo switch ($300 value), and two $100 gift cards. Note that you must RSVP in order to be entered into the drawing. Finally, Kiewit is opening their innovation space to the user group for this presentation. This is where all of Kiewit's high-tech equipment and software is on display. Come early (5:30 PM) for a tour of this space.
Once again, our friends at Harbinger Partners will be providing drinks and hors d'oeuvres after the meeting. You can join us at Rocco's Pizza at 1302 Mike Fahey St.

Rebuilding OmahaMTG – Tips and Tricks
At the beginning of DotNet Rocks, they have a segment called “Better Know a Framework”. Have you ever wondered what a presentation like that would look like? Just a series of “Better Know a Framework” talks?
During the rebuild of the OmahaMTG website, we took the opportunity to try out some new tools and techniques, some of which are used at Kiewit and others that just seemed interesting. In this presentation, Brian will show off some of these tools and techniques. Just like “Better Know a Framework”, you won’t be an expert at the end – but hopefully, you will learn something new that inspires you to spend some time digging into it yourself.
We will go over –
Brian works at Kiewit on the Application Architecture team. In that role, he strives to equip the development teams with the tools, techniques, and guidance to empower them to build outstanding solutions for our users. Brian also co-leads the OmahaMTG user group where we aim to bring sponsors, presenters and most importantly you, our members, together to learn and grow in this shared passion we have for writing software.
